The Best Horribly Marvelous Songs (Part One)

by | Jan 2, 2017

During my years on this planet I, like everyone else, have collected songs that are very important to me. Each one of these songs create the soundtrack of my adventures for various reasons. I have to warn you that my musical tastes are varied and eclectic so be prepared to possibly discover some new favorite or even hated songs in this ongoing series of posts.

“Ain’t it Fun” – Paramore

“Ain’t it fun ‘cause now you’re one of us…”

Halsey may be my favorite singer but Haley Williams of Paramore is not far behind. Haley’s vocal performance on “Ain’t it Fun” is one of my most cherished of all time; she’s in full control of her vocals without ever being overpowering and is untouchable on this meaningful track.

I always say that “reality is relative.” However, I love how Haley sings about a real world that exists beyond some people’s fanciful reality bubble. Haley is very happy to burst that bubble, welcoming all those diluted with delusion to a flawed and lonely world .” On the low this song is mean AF. 😜

Where you’re from
You might be the one who’s running things
Well you can ring anybody’s bell and get what you want
See it’s easy to ignore trouble
When you’re living in a bubble

So what are you gonna do
When the world don’t orbit around you
So what are you gonna do
When nobody wants to fool with you

Ain’t it fun
Living in the real world
Ain’t it good
Being all alone
Ain’t it good to be on your own
Ain’t it fun, you can’t count on no one
Ain’t it good to be on your own
Ain’t it fun you can’t count on no one
Ain’t it fun
Living in the real world

Why this song is Horribly Marvelous:

Do I need to mention that since my town is under attack by Wicked Miracles everyone’s reality bubble has been destroyed?  Everyone is now living in a new world with gateways to alternate dimensions and distant galaxies. Ain’t it fun? 🙂

“Gooey” – Glass Animals

The video for this song totally freaks my out and shall be described as subtly disgusting,  but the dreamy and surreal audio landscape created by this song has pinned it to my heart. Also, I love peanut butter so any talk of “peanut butter vibes” is wonderful to me.

Right, my little pooh bear, wanna take a chance?
Wanna sip the smooth air, kick it in the sand
I’d say I told you so but you just gonna cry
You just wanna know those peanut butter vibes

My, my simple sir, this ain’t gonna work
Mind my wicked words and tipsy topsy slurs
I can’t take this place, no I can’t take this place
I just wanna go where I can get some space

Why this song is Horribly Marvelous:

Honestly, this song is just trippy and weird just like my life. I love both. If I got high I would totally get high to this song all the time. So I imagine that I’m high when I’m listening.

“What’s my Name” – Rihanna ft.Drake

Aside from the song being epic, I love it because although we may not utter the words just about every girl is in search of someone she can truly say this about:

You’re so amazing,
You took the time to figure me out
That’s why you take me,
Way past the point of turning me on
You bout to break me,
I swear you got me losing my mind

Why this song is Horribly Marvelous:

I can dance around it and deny it all I want, but if I’m being honest, I must confess that Carey has fulfilled the demands Rihanna has laid out for a suitor in this song. I mean come on, it is rather hard to front on a guy who has no problem battling homicidal transdimensional maniacs that terrorize everything holy and has saved your life once. Well, I saved his life too so we’re even. Regardless, I know he knows that I like him and I’m down, but I have no desire to go overboard and tell him how I REALLY feel. 🙂
